Abstract

Article Summary

Chromium is an essential trace element known to play a vital role in glucose metabolism, protein synthesis, and overall nutritional regulation. In this study, chromium(VI) complexes with glutamine were synthesized and investigated to explore their structural features and nutritional relevance. Glutamine, an abundant amino acid with strong coordination ability through nitrogen and oxygen donor sites, was utilized as the primary ligand for complex formation. The chromium–glutamine complexes were prepared under controlled conditions and subjected to comprehensive characterization using FTIR spectroscopy, UV–Visible spectroscopy, elemental analysis, and thermal studies to determine metal– ligand bonding, stoichiometry, and stability. Structural evaluation indicated successful coordination of glutamine to chromium through amide and carboxylate functional groups. This study provides insight into the interaction of essential biomolecules with trace metals and opens new avenues for designing amino acid–based chromium complexes with improved stability and nutritional effectiveness.
